Green Homes Grant Voucher Scheme

Green Homes Grant Voucher Scheme

The Green Homes Grant Voucher Scheme launched at the end of September and will allow consumers to obtain funding for up to two-thirds of the cost of the energy-saving measures identified – up to £5000 – in the form of new vouchers. Lower-income households could be entitled to have as much as £10,000 of the costs covered.
To carry out work under the scheme, all tradespeople and businesses must be certified to install energy efficiency or low carbon heat measures to relevant standards and to register their certification with TrustMark.
This is a significant opportunity for tradespeople who are able to carry out the following works to gather new business:
  • Solid wall, under-floor, cavity wall or roof insulation
  • Air source or ground source heat pump
  • Solar thermal
In addition, households can use their voucher for secondary energy-saving measures, including double/triple glazing or secondary glazing when replacing single glazing, upgrading to energy-efficient doors and hot water tank, appliance tanks, and thermostat controls.
The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has updated Government guidance for installers to provide more detail on the Green Homes Grant application process.
BEIS is currently working through the first applications from consumers, ensuring that those who have applied are eligible for the scheme and that these requests are genuine. They are currently on track to start issuing the first vouchers in early November. As set out in the terms and conditions and original guidance, work can only begin under the scheme once a voucher has been issued to the customer.
